Ed Lear is the founding partner of Century Law Group, a civil litigation firm that is known for its trial results.
Mr. Lear graduated from Dartmouth College in 1983 and from U.C.L.A. School of Law in 1987, where he was a member of the Law Review and the Moot Court Honors Program. He was a "big firm" litigation associate until 1992, when he was hired as a California State Bar prosecutor. For three years, Mr. Lear prosecuted California attorneys, never losing a trial, before co-founding Gerry & Lear in 1994. In 2002, he started Century Law Group, now a six-attorney litigation firm.Mr. Lear has tried over 300 cases, including over 50 jury trials.
Mr. Lear is a recognized speaker at legal seminars, has published numerous articles, and has been qualified as an expert witness in state and federal courts. Mr. Lear has lectured other lawyers on a variety of topics through U.C.L.A. School of Law, Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles, Consumer Attorneys of California, Los Angeles County Bar Association, and the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association.
Mr. Lear recently served as past Chairman of the California State Bar’s Effectiveness Subcommittee and as a member of the Fairness Subcommittee. In 2014, Mr. Lear was inducted into the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) and has trained young attorneys on the nuances of trial work through ABOTA’s Jack Daniels Trial School for over ten years. Additionally, he has been designated a “Super Lawyer” in Civil Litigation since 2017, a recognition given to only the top 5% of his peers.
Mr. Lear has handled hundreds of cases on behalf of property and business owners, helping to uphold their rights against governmental agencies. In addition to representing Lahaina property and business owners in their lawsuits to recover damages, his Firm is currently representing Paradise (CA) wildfire victims in a class action for economic losses.
